Learning Objectives: This hands-on two-day course is designed to introduce the participant to basic concepts in dental radiation, including its nature, generation and biologic effects. Describe radiation physics and characteristics of density, contrast, detail and definition. Describe and identify common radiological errors on conventional and dental imaging and corrections. Identify federal and state regulations pertaining to services offered. Learning Objectives: This is a two-day hands-on course that meet requirements of The Tennessee Board of Dentistry. You will learn ethics and jurisprudence as related to coronal polishing by the dental assistant. Apply proper infection control methods. Recognize plaque and materia alba and their effects on oral cavity. Distinguish the difference between intrinsic and extrinsic stain. Identify the types of abrasive agents available for use in coronal polishing. Demonstrate the proper use of the slow speed handpiece and its armamentarium. Discuss the theory of slective polishing. Identify the equipment, materials, and supplies needed for coronal polishing. Identify the potential risks and contraindications for coronal polishing. Demonstrate the preferred technique for coronal polishing. Recognize the proper positiong used/ergonomics. Demonstrate clinical competency in performing coronal polishing in a preclinical setting. Learning Objectives: The one-day course meets requirements of The Tennessee Board of Dentistry. Paient management of sealant placement, dental anatomy, sealant products, techniques and placement, ethics and jurisprudence related to pit and fissure sealants, experience in securing a dry field, ergonomic considerations, placement of sealants with light cured products on extracted teeth in a lab setting, sealant placement of at least ten (10) pit and fissure sealants on extracted teeth during the course. Explain pit and fissure anatomy, explain the criteria for an ideal sealant, state indications and contraindications for sealant placement. You will learn dental anatomy and physiology related to Nitrous Oxide, common drugs that react to the exposure of Nitrous Oxide, the operation of equipment used to monitor Nitrous Oxide, as well as the safety features and infection control of equipment, responsibilities in monitoring patients under Nitrous Oxide, recognition and management of medical emergencies associated with Nitrous Oxide, throughout this course you will learn the indications for Nitrous Oxide use, advantages and disadvantages, proper monitoring technique, and the health hazards and abuse potential of Nitrous Oxide.
